TSP and its design and construction partners marked a major milestone in the Mayo Civic Center expansion on September 23rd, when local contractors installed the first steel trusses. Each measures 180 feet in length and will help form the upper skeleton for the complex’s new ballroom. The trusses are manufactured in two pieces, and each requires two cranes to support its massive weight as it’s hoisted and affixed to the rest of the structural steel framework.

The MCC expansion is one of the largest  projects in TSP’s 85-year history. It carries a $71 million construction price tag and will nearly double the size of the facility in downtown Rochester, Minn. With these trusses in place, other portions of the building can begin to take shape. Completion is scheduled for 2017. TSP’s partners include Betsch Associates architects, Knutson Construction, and the professional construction management firm of CPMI. Watch the project progress.
