The Wisconsin Association of School Boards prepares and distributes a monthly magazine featuring issues, successes, and challenges facing school districts.

The cover story for the December magazine, found online here, definitely focuses on a success: The Johnson Creek School District‘s new dome school, the first of its kind in Wisconsin and a TSP project. In the article, Superintendent Michael Garvey recalled a visit to Grand Meadow Public Schools, also designed by TSP.

“Garvey said when he first saw the buildings from the outside, he wasn’t impressed.

” ‘ When we drove up, it looked a little small; I thought it would be damp and dark inside,’ Garvey said. ‘But once we were in the school, it was the complete opposite. It was bright, open and there was a lot of space.'”

The article, written by Shelby Anderson, extols the virtues of a dome school. Among the reasons listed are cost, energy efficiency, and the flexibility of educational spaces.

Johnson Creek School District is offering tours of its new school during the Wisconsin Education Convention. Superintendent Garvey will lead tours between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Jan. 17 and noon and 3 p.m. Jan. 20.
