TSP partnered with Stockwell Engineering for a center that will offer a 50-meter outdoor lane and recreation pool.
Cost Estimating, Schematic
TSP partnered with Stockwell Engineering to create an outdoor aquatic center for the City of Yankton that will provide decades of summer activities, fun, and exercise. The Huether Family Aquatics Center is named for Yankton native and former Sioux Falls Mayor Mike Huether and his family, who made a major donation to the project that will benefit children and adults.
Work on the aquatics center began in spring 2020 when the former swimming pool was removed. The 50-meter outdoor pool will offer eight lanes. Since the lap pool will be large enough to host swim meets, a wider deck will be constructed to allow for the installation of bleachers. A recreation pool will offer a large play structure with a zero-depth entry. Adjacent to that space will be a lazy river and a series of slides, one that offers a surface trough landing. A splash pad also is planned.
TSP designed the buildings for the aquatics center. A small mechanical building will house the equipment needed to operate the pools. A larger building includes separate locker rooms for men and women and family-changing rooms. The building’s administration portion offers a lifeguard station, ticketed, booth, and a three-direction concession stand that will serve both the pool and visitors to the adjacent park.
It will open in 2021.
