Leaders at Kenyon-Wanamingo School District crafted their long-range strategy around the idea of becoming a model rural school district. The motto: “Dream Like a Knight. Act Like a Knight.” Wanamingo is home to the elementary school, while the middle/high schools share a facility in Kenyon ― about 11 miles west.

The TSP team collaborated with administrators, staff, board members, and community stakeholders to develop a vision and provide pre-referendum support through visuals and public-education sessions. In addition to the changes described below, remodels to early childhood rooms now provide equitable spaces at schools in both Kenyon and Wanamingo.

Middle/High School
Along with a new roof and other deferred-maintenance items, the middle/high school facility got a new fieldhouse, which includes extra gym space, a multipurpose/wrestling room, fitness area, and remodeled locker rooms. The new construction also includes a commons that allows secure entry, with better drop-off for students and visitors. In addition to building updates, an improved, graded football field features a proper crown and irrigation system. A six-lane competition track replaces the old dirt track.

Elementary School
The elementary school benefited from a classroom addition, gymnasium renovation, early childhood areas, site improvements, and deferred-maintenance items.
