TSP’s Rochester Public Works and Transit Operations Center was named a Finance & Commerce Top Project of 2011. Judged on degree of difficulty, creativity in design, innovative construction techniques, cooperation among contractors and management, and sustainability efforts, selected projects stand out against countless applicants. Recognized as one of Minnesota’s top construction projects, the new Rochester Public Works and Transit Operations Center appears in the July 14th edition of Finance & Commerce.
Designing a new Public Works and Transit Operations Center for Minnesota’s third largest city was no small feat. The project incorporates 130,000 square feet of storage, operations and maintenance space for the city’s entire vehicle fleet in a sustainable facility that improves efficiency and reduces costs.
“The City of Rochester wanted to incorporate green initiatives not only to reap the benefits of a sustainable facility but also to showcase and test the same design approaches, products, and systems the City is asking private developers to include. The Public Works and Transit Operations Center provides a working knowledge of how LEED-worthy elements perform under real world conditions. TSP will monitor outcomes over time to help future clients make wise choices in developing a sustainable future,” says TSP Principal Steve Sorensen.
