Two TSP architects also honored for individual contributions to the field
The 2018 AIA South Dakota annual convention concluded Friday night with the design awards banquet. Two buildings designed by #TeamTSP + SmithGroup received recognition during the event.
The Beacom Institute of Technology at Dakota State University claimed the coveted Honor Award, accepted by architect Chase Kramer. The Froiland Science Complex at Augustana University earned earned a Merit Award. Kramer and architect Michelle Klobassa accepted that award.

Architect John Ronan, founder of John Ronan Architects, served as this year’s jurist. Ronan praised Beacom for picking up the rhythm and patterning from nearby 100-year-old East Hall. He said Froiland was a tough design challenge that created a new gateway to the campus.
Beacom also received the People’s Choice Award, voted by those in attendance. Earlier during the two-day conference, architect Paul Boerboom received the 2018 Legacy Award while Allison Dvorak was recognized with the 2018 Young Architect Award.
TSP is a proud supporter of AIA South Dakota. Several team members, including architect Jason Kann, serve on boards and committees. Michelle is secretary-treasurer, while Allison and Jenn Johnson both are board members.
