The Vermillion School District held a ribbon cutting and open house Wednesday to unveil its new elementary school, a state-of-the-art facility that symbolizes the community’s commitment to education and belief in the potential of every child.
The new school includes five sections of pre-kindergarten through fifth grade.
It also has two classrooms each for junior kindergarten, Head Start, and preschool, six special education rooms, flex rooms, and open student commons areas.
“Our kids who come through these doors are going to be super proud of this building for many years to come,” said Dr. Damon Alvey, Vermillion School District superintendent.
Designed by TSP to promote flexibility for future growth, Vermillion Elementary School currently serves more than 600 students.
“It takes a great team to create a wonderful building like this,” said TSP Architect Greg Schoer before Wednesday’s ribbon cutting. Schoer credited Vermillion administration, staff, and community members for their vital contributions to the successful collaboration.
Hausmann Construction was the construction manager for the 117,000-square-foot project.
The new school replaced two elementary school buildings that were each 67 years old.
