With a background in architecture, education, and fine art, Seth Harwood is eager to apply his skill set to new opportunities at TSP. He is excited about the diverse project work and clients, as well as the opportunities that a career at TSP offers.

“Becoming a licensed architect is a top priority,” Seth said. “One of the many reasons I sought employment at TSP was because it’s clear that helping architectural graduates grow and become licensed is a focus, and that sort of support is definitely appealing.”

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in architectural studies from South Dakota State University’s first architecture class in 2014, Seth changed career direction and earned a Master of Fine Arts from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.

He then spent a little over four years as an adjunct professor at Black Hills State University, teaching alternative photographic processes, film photography, graphic design, and art history courses.

While at BHSU, Seth joined a design firm in the Black Hills, gaining full-time experience as an architectural designer and project manager specializing in healthcare, education, and residential projects.

During that time, he shifted to focus fully on the practice of architecture and went on to earn his Master of Architecture from Boston Architectural College while continuing to work full time.

Since joining TSP in February, Seth has been busy as the architectural lead on a new Ronald McDonald House that will be located on Monument Health property in Rapid City. The facility will include 12 guest rooms with space for 10 future rooms.

The single-story community residence will include offices, a boardroom, community kitchen space, dining and a coffee bar, various youth spaces, a reception area, laundry, and other spaces to make the stay comfortable for visitors during trying times.

Seth, who strives to produce work on which he is proud to put his name, credits Buckminster Fuller for having the greatest influence on his career. In his book “Critical Path,” Fuller talked about how people should always strive to help elevate society in any way they could, and Seth took that to heart.

Outside of work, Seth enjoys yoga, photography and illustrating, and playing the guitar.

Seth, who grew up in Spearfish, is also a professional photographer, and his work has been featured in six countries and across the United States from Los Angeles to New York City.

However, all of that aside, no matter what got a person where they are – or their background, Seth tries to always go back to the old adage from the Red Green Show, “Remember I’m pullin’ for ya. We’re all in this together.”

So let’s get to work
