EXCERPTS FROM BUCKMILLER’S 40 UNDER 40 NOMINATION
At TSP, Jake is among the first to adopt new management approaches and is committed to professional growth and improving team performance. Proactive and responsive, he volunteers for additional responsibilities, such as leading peer-to-peer roundtables, which demonstrates dedication to fostering a collaborative environment, encouraging shared learning, and supporting his peers in their development.

As a discipline leader, efforts to continually improve the electrical department are among Jake’s top priorities. He encourages the team to share lessons learned, pushes for continued learning within career development plans, and he creates an atmosphere where the department can openly discuss projects and design approaches. Jake has built a high degree of trust, in part because he is always available for questions and support and will stop what he’s working on to help another member of the team.

Outreach to the next generation of engineering professionals is important to Jake. He attends career fairs and presents to South Dakota State University’s Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Club. Jake was recently recognized as an inaugural cohort member of the SDSU Alumni Mentor Program. In this role, he met individually with one student over the course of the year and offered career guidance.
