Northern State begins new era with regional science center

A new era at NSU officially begins Monday, when NSU’s new Jewett Regional Science Education Center opens for classes. The $25.2 million structure is the first new classroom/teaching building constructed on campus in more than 40 years. The TSP, Inc. + SmithGroup team designed the building with the Henry Carlson Co. and its sister company Kyburz-Carlson serving as contractor.

A project currently under construction will have a lasting impact on how TSP, Inc. architects and engineers design and renovate future buildings. A recent trip to Aberdeen, SD, re-emphasized the importance of designing for people with different abilities. Four TSP team members – including architects behind the new South Dakota School for the Blind and Visually Impaired – took part in Dinner for the Dark. Guests wear blindfolds while eating their meals at the event, which supports the South Dakota Federation for the Blind and Visually Impaired.

Student input sought to design replacement for century-old high school

As students and instructors in the Perham-Dent School District in Perham, MN, began voicing what they wanted to see in a new high school, one wish was clear: Let there be light! On Sept. 4, when the 2018-2019 school year officially started, that’s exactly what they found: a light-filled building that, through user input, is designed to enhance the student-staff experience.
