After Among Friends purchased an existing building, approximately 5,200 square feet was renovated to support the Adult Day Center, with remaining space (3,000 sf) to be leased. The building is designed for up to 54 Adult Day clients and nine staff members.

Where old meets new

The original 1970s architecture had great bones and style, featuring a butterfly roof with clerestory windows along both sides. Over the years, the building was remodeled, providing for the functional needs of each previous tenant. TSP’s recent renovation revealed the charm of the existing building’s structure by removing and peeling back interior walls and extra ceilings. This allowed an abundance of natural daylight to once again filter into the facility through its now-exposed clerestory windows and exposed roof structure.

A place designed for daily life

The facility is divided into three main spaces.

The living room/ dining room area, the heart of the center, features comfortable lounge seating for watching TV, relaxing, or reading. Dining tables and chairs are provided for group meals or playing cards and games. Natural daylight filters in from the clerestory windows along the southern side. A serving kitchen is adjacent to the dining room.

The second indoor lounge space is a more intimate setting located just within the main entry. It includes an area for coffee, a place for coats and boots, and comfortable seating options with a view through floor-to-ceiling windows to the outdoors.

The third space, a resting room, features a half-dozen cots and reclining chairs in a more private setting for quiet relaxation away from activities. The space between the cots can be further divided with decorative ceiling-hung curtains.

A fenced-in outdoor seating area allows clients to catch some sun and enjoy nature. It is adjacent to the covered pick-up/drop-off area at the main entry.
