Starting with an initial planning study, TSP collaborated with the City of Watertown to repurpose a former Wells Fargo Bank building on Maple Street —just west of the previous city offices — into a new City Hall that better serves the needs of staff and residents.
Due to limitations in the former city offices, staff were unable to effectively serve residents, and several attempts to plan for a new facility had stalled. Eventually, the city acquired the adjacent Wells Fargo branch, recognizing its potential to support City services in a more efficient and cost-effective way.
Although an older building, the structure was well maintained over the years. Notable features preserved in the renovation include the original woodwork and a high-coffered ceiling that add character to the space.
The core departments now located in the renovated facility include Administration, the City Manager’s Office, City Attorney, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Public Works, Community Development, Building Services, Planning and Zoning, and City Engineering. The new addition houses the Watertown City Council Chambers, which is shared by various city boards.
TSP provided architecture; interior design; and mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering services for the project.
Huff Construction was the general contractor.
