Chris Kenow’s background is in customer services, everything from serving in restaurants to working in retail. Now, he uses it to be the best designer he can be. “If I find myself focusing too heavily on the form over the function, I try to take a step back and remind myself that people must be able to inhabit or exist in the space,” he says. “I try to stay practical while still offering unique solutions to each one of my designs.” Chris has done everything from installing flooring in his house alongside his father and designing a nursery with his father-in-law. What really transformed his perspective and challenged him as a designer was a brewery that he helped design and open in Rochester. Working alongside a good friend and colleague, it opened in Rochester in summer 2019. “It pushed me to think outside of the box. I needed to create something that the people of Rochester had never seen before. It was what pushed me to look back into a career in architecture and fortunately find TSP.” Chris supports local artists and musicians, showing love to the Rochester music scene by attending shows and concerts frequently. His personal favorite song is “Total Eclipse of the Heart” by Bonnie Taylor. He likes its heart and emotion, and in high school it became the anthem for Chris and his friends. They would crank it up in the car and sing at the top of their lungs.
